Did You Know that Singer Island is not really an island?
Bet you did not know that Singer Island is not really an island? It is actually a peninsula, located on the North side of the Palm Beach Inlet. At one time, this lush tropical “island” was connected to the town of Palm Beach. This was before the Port of Palm Beach was dug in 1917. The beautiful turquoise/blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean are on the East side of Singer Island. And, the Intracoastal Waterway (Lake Worth) is on the West side of the island. To the north is a small sliver of land that is connected to the island. And, this small connection is what makes it a peninsula, rather than an island.
Did you know that Singer Island is the closest land in the United States to the warm blue waters of the Gulf Stream? Due to its location, it is ideal for year round enjoyment of the various activities Singer Island has to offer. The normal average daily temperature is 75, with an average high of 83 and low of 66. The wide, sandy beaches along the ocean are ideal for walking along the ocean’s shore line. While, the new sidewalks, along the lakeside of A1A are best suited for dry land walking. In addition there are rest areas, along the way of the 5 mile length of the island.
Singer Island consists of about 1500 acres and has two entrances. The first is the southern entrance crossing the Blue Heron Bridge, over Lake Worth (Intracoastal Waterway). This entrance takes you through the city of Riviera Beach. And, PGA Boulevard (A1A, Jack Nicklaus Boulevard) is the North entrance which passes through the town of Palm Beach Gardens. John D. MacArthur State Park, located at the North end of Singer Island. Immediately thereafter, you will view the first of the island’s 34 high rise condominiums. Ocean Reef Park is located about midway on the island. And, the public beach is located near the South end of the island adjacent to the new Singer Island Ocean Mall.
The town of Palm Beach Shores is located at the South end of Singer Island, with the Palm Beach Inlet separating it from Palm Beach. The town has an oceanfront beach featuring a community center with playground. Furthermore, there is a paved walking path through the middle of the town. This walkway ends in a wide paved walkway along the Inlet. This is a great location for watching boats of all sizes go in and out of the Port of Palm Beach.
Singer Island offers high-rise and low-rise condominiums along the Atlantic Ocean’s oceanfront. And, single family homes, located on canals, the Intracoastal, inland and a 55+ community on the west side of A1A. All of which, offers choices for permanent residences or vacation/second homes. There are also several hotels, timeshares and apartment complexes available for seasonal tenants and vacationers. In recent years, Singer Island has become a much sought after destination!
Singer Island is only 20 minutes from the PBI Airport, Palm Beach Outlet Mall and City Place in West Palm Beach. The Gardens Mall, Downtown at the Gardens and Legacy Place are located in Palm Beach Gardens, near the north end of the Island.
